Fibre Installation and Connectivity
Fibre optic is the future of UK connectivity – and Wingnut are bringing it to you
One of the main services we offer is full fibre optic installation, including for both overground and underground locations. The former solution is delivered via the use of poles which suspend the cables overhead, while the latter employs conduit tubing to carry the fibres underfoot. In certain cases, a combination of the two methods is appropriate. At Wingnut Utilities Ltd, we are able to offer all of the above as part of our physical infrastructure access (PIA) services.
Fibre optic cables run all the way to the premises in question, whether that be an apartment, house, office or other public building. It is the fastest broadband connection available, capable of delivering speeds of up to 1,000Mbps (or 1Gbps) and the UK government has targeted rolling the technology out to every property in the country by the end of 2030.
Rigorous testing and inspection protocols
One of the most important aspects of a fibre optic installation job is proper termination of the cables. A network will be unreliable if this task is not performed adequately, which is why we devote a significant amount of attention to this area during our rigorous testing protocols. Proficient termination will also protect the fibres from dirt and damage while they are in use and prevent excessive loss of light.
In order to deliver impeccable results on each job we handle, Wingnut has an extensive range of equipment at our disposal. This includes the cable winches, crimping and cutting tools, drum jacks, drum trailers and rollers to install the fibre optic network professionally, as well as the testing equipment necessary to ensure the infrastructure is working correctly. All of these tools are fully maintained and inspected on a regular basis to ensure we comply with our legal obligations and are equipped to perform our jobs to the best of our abilities.
